The case was about the software dedicated for financial institutions, which were developed by a well-known fintech company in the world. The user manual came with a lot of UI screenshots, but the client could not provide a demo version of the software for reference. We were required to complete translation of the 264-page document with a word count of over 30,000 within three days.
In the face of such an urgent, tough job, we had to mobilize multiple linguists for collaboration. We chose the most experienced PM to take charge, and arranged 4 excellent linguists for translation and one expert for editing and proofreading. A WeChat group were also set up for all the linguists and staffs to exchange ideas in real time. Composition of the team:
PM: Responsible to: (1) engage a DTP worker to convert the PDF file into editable Word file; (2) review the Word file to ensure correct formatting and typesetting and complete sentences before importing the file into the CAT tool; (3) assign jobs with clear requirements, deadlines, and other important information to the 4 linguists; (4) follow up the translation progress; and (5) work closely with the client for timely delivery and build a “bridge” between the client and the linguists.
Linguists: Required to complete the translation of over 7,000 words each on the online CAT platform within two days, during which, they had to collaborate and communicate with each other for consistency of terminology and expressions.
Proofreader: Required to review the translation almost simultaneously; finalize the glossary in a timely way and keep all the linguists updated; and point out problems in translation and ask the linguists to correct them, so that there was no recurrence of the same problems.
Finally, the job was completed on time without compromise on quality, thanks to the team’s cooperation and endeavor.
