A private company reformulated its Articles of Association according to the Company Law of Singapore. The document covered a host of business contents, such as terminology, shares, share transfer, general meeting of shareholders, resolutions, directors, and procedure of board meeting. Corporate and law knowledge was needed in translation.

Main challenges: the uneditable source file would need formatting while capable linguists with solid law knowledge would be required in both translation and editing. To address the challenges, a DTP (desk top publishing) expert was engaged to convert the uneditable PDF file into Word file which was then imported to the CAT (computer-assisted translation) tool - SDL Trados, and the translators worked on it with a translation memory and Termbase for consistency. With a word count of approximately 20,000 and a relatively loose time frame, the case was translated by an experienced linguist in law, proofread by another one, and inspected by the QA manager. The finished translation was finally checked by the project manager for any formatting issue before delivery to the customer.
